Shen Wei is a Qiushi Chair Professor at the School of Public Affairs, Zhejiang University, and a Jean Monnet Chair Professor of the European Union. Professor Shen holds a PhD in Human Geography from Loughborough University, an LLM from Stockholm University, and an Erasmus Master in Law and Economics and a Master in Urban Management from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Before joining Zhejiang University, he served as Associate Vice-President for International Relations at Deakin University in Australia, Director of the Confucius Institute and Professor at the Management School of Lancaster University, Professor and Associate Dean at ESSCA, and Visiting Professor at prestigious institutions such as Sciences Po and the University of Strasbourg.
Professor Shen is the Editor-in-Chief of the SSCI journal Asia Europe Journal and the General Editor of the EU’s Global Relations book series published by Routledge. He serves as Vice-President of the EU-Asia Centre, a renowned think tank based in Brussels, and is currently a member of the Accreditation Committee of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a board member of Nan Tien Institute (Australia), and a member of the International Advisory Boards of Hong Kong Baptist University, the School of Economics and Management at Beijing Jiaotong University, ESC Clermont Business School (France), and Pforzheim University Business School (Germany). Professor Shen has worked with various international organizations and academic institutions, including the Council of Europe (Strasbourg), the University of Oxford, the Asia-Europe Foundation (Singapore), the International Organization for Migration (Geneva), UNESCO (Hamburg), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (Rome), the Center for Asian Studies at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), and the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Research Network.
Professor Shen’s primary research interests include China-EU/Asia-Europe relations, international migration, the Chinese diaspora, returnee talent mobility, global cities, and international business strategy. His articles and interviews have been featured in world-renowned academic journals (such as European Studies, Urban Studies, Regional Studies, and Environment and Planning) and media outlets including Le Monde, the International Herald Tribune, China Daily, and The New York Times. He has received numerous research grants and awards from the EU Marie Curie Actions, Jean Monnet Projects, the European Science Foundation, the Royal Society, the Foundation for Urban and Regional Studies, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, and the Volkswagen Foundation. Professor Shen actively participates in international academic exchange and cooperation; he is the co-founder and co-chair of the Alliance of Chinese and European Business Schools (ACE) and leads the Collaborative Research Network on EU-China Relations for the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES). An academic advisor to the European Union, he has frequently served as a Vice-Chair for the evaluation of humanities and social science fund applications. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS) and the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), a recipient of the Sir Robert Martin University Prize from Loughborough University, and served as President/Vice-President of the Asia-Europe Foundation University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN) from 2008 to 2014.
